We’re now looking for a Senior MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Engineer with a focus on Quantity Surveying (QS), your role encompasses both technical expertise in MEP systems design and implementation as well as proficiency in quantity surveying and cost management. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, installation, and cost aspects of MEP systems while ensuring projects are delivered within budgetary con-straints. Your ability to integrate design considerations with cost consid-erations will be crucial in optimizing project costs, enhancing efficiency, and maintaining quality standards.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- MEP Systems Design: Lead the design and engineering of MEP systems, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), electrical distribution, lighting, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Ensure designs meet project requirements, codes, and standards for performance, efficiency, and safety.
- Quantity Surveying: Perform quantity take-offs and cost estimations for MEP components and systems based on project specifications and drawings. Develop bills of quantities (BOQs) and cost estimates to support tendering, procurement, and budgeting processes.
- Cost Estimation: Collaborate with design teams to develop cost-effective MEP solutions that meet project objectives and client requirements. Provide input on design options, material selections, and construction methods to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and performance standards.
- Budget Management: Develop and maintain project budgets for MEP works, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Monitor project expenditures, track variations, and implement cost control measures to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Value Engineering: Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising functionality or quality. Evaluate design alternatives, specifications, and construction methods to achieve cost savings while meeting project requirements.
- Tendering and Procurement: Prepare tender documents for MEP packages, including scope of work, specifications, and contract conditions. Assist in the evaluation of tender submissions, negotiation of contracts, and selection of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Contract Administration: Administer MEP contracts, including progress payments, variations, and claims management. Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions, including scope of work, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Cost Reporting: Prepare regular cost reports and financial forecasts to track project expenditures, commitments, and cash flow. Provide timely updates to project stakeholders on cost performance, budget variances, and potential risks.
- Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and guidance on MEP systems design, installation, and commissioning. Resolve technical issues and challenges related to MEP works during construction.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor junior engineers and quantity surveyors to build a high-performing team. Foster a collaborative work environment, encourage knowledge sharing, and promote professional development.
Qualifications and Experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification or accreditation in quantity surveying (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in MEP engineering and quantity surveying roles, with a minimum of
- 5 years of relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of MEP systems design, construction methods, and building codes.
Competencies (Technical & Soft Skill):
- Strong proficiency in quantity surveying techniques, cost estimation, and cost management principles.
- Experience with MEP design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, MEP modeling software).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and manage competing priorities.
